Hello! I’m Rosie, and you are awesome for coming on the La Luna Rose journey with me. The full story of how I started out is something I’ll need to share with you over numerous cold bevvies, so here’s a super quick dip into how La Luna Rose came to fruition.
Hailing from beautiful Christchurch, New Zealand, when adulthood hit I realised I was ready to do more, see more, and be more. After studying Art and then Fashion at University, traveling abroad for over a year, an extended stay in Australia, a foray into the Aussie fashion industry, and a game show appearance, I decided it was time to manifest my own dream. I wanted to design and launch my own jewellery label - and so La Luna Rose was born!
An intrepid soul, I packed up my bags again, and headed north of Australia to the tropics to start on my mission: to bring explosive colour and quality to the world of sterling silver jewellery. I strongly believe in ensuring all of our jewellery is produced in an ethical and sustainable fashion, and in forming great bonds with the wonderful creators who actually bring our designs to life (you can read more about them below!). It’s been an incredible journey so far; I’ve met so many beautiful individuals along the way, and been through a rollercoaster ride of highs, lows and everything in-between. And you know what? I wouldn’t change a thing.
A self-proclaimed gypsy for life, I continue to move between New Zealand, Australia and Bali, and I look forward to meeting you throughout this journey. Make sure you follow La Luna Rose on Facebook
to keep an eye on where we trek to next!
La Luna Rose wouldn't be here without all our beautiful & talented artisans who are behind each & every finished La Luna Rose piece. Meet these guys below & find out a little bit more about what they get up to in their time off, what they're into & how we came to work together. We work hands on with these guys throughout the year & we're pretty chuffed to say that we work with a top notch bunch of peeps!
Meet Anise. Anise and I hit it off instantly… when I finally found her! In the very early days of La Luna Rose, I realised there was no way I could make the jewellery and run the business (huge props to those who can and do). I searched high and low for someone who would be able to bead my designs into reality, but the only answer I ever received was “No - not possible”. After persevering for months, the stars eventually aligned, and my path crossed with Anise’s. The first sample she made for me was incredible, and so our relationship began. She is the mastermind who brings every single piece of our beaded products to life, and she does so with an inspirational work ethic. She never misses a meeting, and never misses a bead (although in this interview she told me she has had to re-make a whole design a couple of times because of accidentally beaded one bead in the wrong place… we’re human!). She is the icing on the cake for the La Luna Rose empire, bringing endless smiles, awkward giggles (we don't speak the same language, but we bond over Google Translate) and delicious snacks from her family orchard in Java. In the future I hope to build Anise her own studio so she has the opportunity to teach more lovely ladies the amazing talents she has, and so she can give her own hands a well-deserved rest!
Komang rocks my boat. She is the calm, collected soul who manages La Luna Rose orders between the silversmith, herself and I. She is also the beading guru behind every single Sundown Sandy beaded bracelet ever produced. That's a fair few thousand bracelets, and we're not even 2 years old! We sat down with Komang recently and asked her a few questions to get a glimpse into her life. Can you believe she drives 1 hour each and every day from her home to her office across the island? We’ll post some more on Komang as soon as we translate her interview, to learn more her life behind the office doors and to share with it you all! Watch this space for updates.
So Anise & Komang have finished their amazing beadwork & then what happens you ask? ....In steps Made. Made is our head Silversmith here in the La Luna Rose factory and during that busy beading time, Made has been working his hands at polishing, shaping, carving, welding & re-shaping our silver attachments to perfection! Made is a guru & has eyes like a hawk. Who else can stare at tiny incy wincy 1mm pieces of silver beauties all day with miniscule tools & shape them to perfection? Not I that's for sure! Made originally hails from mainland Java & moved to Bali a few years back in search of work opportunities. And work opportunities he found! You will find him at the factory 5 and a half days a week where he sits amongst friends, listening to Bahasa pop tunes & smoking way too many cigarettes. His favourite food is a good old Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice - Also my favourite!) and on his days off he likes to hang out at the beach. Made's honestly & attention to detail ensure that our pieces are of the best quality when they end up in your hands. Onya Made!
And finally, the oil that makes all the cogs & people work together....Meet my buddy Didin. Didin & I met, again, extremely randomly & on a bit of whim. I was new to this jewellery game & fresh to the streets of Bali and wasn't too sure as to how everything was going to come together. Things from all angles kept getting pushed back, production issues, travel delays so I was in a bit of a flap when I met Didin & his team and on the off chance I decided to work with him on a couple of designs as a back up. His dedication, attention to detail & complete honestly won me over & before long, he was my main guy. Not one to say too much (although when we get started on a Bahasa lesson he's hard to stop!) Didin burrows away in his office with a million & one sheets of printed paper over-seeing both the production & co-ordination of his clients orders. Between dropping his kids off at school in the heart of Denpasar (A good 30 minute scooter ride away), picking up client orders from his local factory to working with the wax carvers, Didin always has time for a good laugh over an afternoon coffee & a life chat about all things New Zealand. (Mainly about shipping & why Akaroa is so far away from a main post office!) A true guru in the jewellery game, Didin has been a life-saver & amazing confidant through the beginnings of La Luna Rose & I look forward to growing with him over the years. Makasi Pak! x
Stay tuned as we add more beautiful souls to our team. Updates and behind the scenes with these guys will be on our blog. xx
