We were first introduced to South Australian local, Alex Baker when she applied to become one of our Ambassadors back in 2020. While we knew a little about her and her creative genus... Little did we know what was ACTUALLY going on behind the scene, until this interview. Alex is not only a total babe, creates beautiful content but she is also a full-time paramedic, is starting her own business venture, is studying Marketing all while living her best life, travelling Australia as much as she can... and looking cute doing it!

Never a dull moment and living and breathing her dream life, this interview was both inspiring and refreshing to chat through. So grab a cuppa, (or wine) and Take 5 to get inspired by this go-getting wonder woman who has a very exciting (and un-predictable) path lined up for her.

Let’s get to know you in  12 quick fire questions!

5 Words to describe your style:Effortless, Boho, Laid-Back, Versatile, comfy

Love it Alex, Now into the nitty Gritty!

What keeps you busy Monday - Friday, 9-5?
My “work week” is quite the opposite to the ordinary 9-5 life. I am a Paramedic by trade, working part-time across a 7 day rotating roster. Around this, I do a little bit of accommodation photography and content creation for brands. I am studying Digital Marketing and  have just started working at a marketing agency. I am a busy lady, but I love it!

Fun, how did you get into that line of work? Did you fall into it or knew for a while that it was for you?

I always knew I wanted to work in health care. I loved the idea of being actively involved in life saving, emergency medicine and rocking up to work, having no idea what was in store for that day, so I chose to study Paramedicine. I have always had a passion for Photography, and have fallen into a little bit of content creation work over the last year or so. I see a huge potential in the digital world, which is why I also chose to pursue Digital Marketing.

    Highlights of your work?

I love that I don’t just have to be one thing! Being a Paramedic can be so rewarding. It has challenged me in ways I never thought possible and I have gained a whole new perspective on life. I work with and meet amazing people and I get to do and see some really cool things! I get to unleash my creative side with Digital Marketing/ Photography, which brings the perfect balance into my life!  Although busy,  I have flexibility and get to travel a lot, and that’s all I could really want with my career(s).

Where abouts do you currently get to call home Alex?

    Adelaide, South Aus!

What is the best thing about your neck of the woods?

I think the best thing about living in Adelaide is how short the travel time is to the beach, city, hills and wine regions! Everything really is right around the corner, when you compare to some of the bigger cities in Aus! Also, we are home to some of the best beaches in the world!

If we were visiting Adelaide for 3 days, where would you take us?

Ahh, soo much to do and see! It would definitely be a trip to Mclaren Vale (one of our beautiful wine regions) and Port Willunga (my favourite place on the coast), and then travelling further down the Fleurieu Peninsula, stopping off at a few of my fave coffee shops and then jumping on the ferry to Kangaroo Island!
You would come for three days and want to cancel your flight home, I’m sure of it!

We love your beautiful content you create & share over on @alexandrambaker, you always look so gorgeous in our Linen Pieces! Do you have a favourite piece from our collections to date?

Why thank you! I love absolutely everything from Luna & Rose, but I would have to say my Sage Green Shandy shirt is a wardrobe staple at the moment. Wearing on repeat!

What would you like to see more of from us heading into Summer?

I Wouldn’t say no to some Ollie overalls, but in a short version hehe!

Also - Your new IG account @sleepinginstyle looks so so so good! Can you tell us a little more about this?
Aww thank you so much! Sleeping in, style is an account dedicated to sharing all of the incredible Airbnb’s/accomodation locations that I have the pleasure of visiting! I have a big obsession with unique interior spaces and love sharing the places I visit on my main account. I was quite surprised by the amount of messages I would receive, asking me where I am staying, asking for accomm recs, and how I even find these incredible places. I had an Airbnb host reach out to me and ask if I could come and stay, to create some content for them, and that’s what kind of sparked the whole idea!

How do you connect with companies / places to share on this account?

I had been doing a little bit of self promotion and offering my photography/content services to accommodation hosts.
I have since been blown away by the influx of hosts that have reached out to me since starting the account. I was not at all expecting it to take off! I have even had some hosts reach out to me from interstate  and I just feel so insanely lucky to even have this opportunity!

Do you have a plan for @sleepinginstyle or is it a little passion project that you will see where the wind takes you on it?

I am definitely not much of a planner, I tend to wing most things in life. I still see it as being a little passion project/very small biz, but who knows where it will take me! There is so much excitement in the unknown!

We know you love a good travel mission. Where is the coolest place you have ever travelled to, to date & what made it so cool?

My partner and I lived and worked in Whistler, Canada for a ski season a couple of years back! It was by far the coolest thing we have ever done and it really pushed me out of my comfort zone! It had always been a dream of mine to live abroad and I am so glad we made that happen before covid spiced things up.

Do you live by any one piece of advice, quote or have a general life motto?

My line of work has made me so acutely aware of how unpredictable and precious life really is. So, do all of the things that make you happy and don’t sweat the small stuff. Go on adventures. Enjoy the little things: like a beautiful sunset, the taste of a good coffee, the sound of rain when you’re snuggled up in bed. Surround yourself with good people.  Be unapologetically you. Tell the people you love, just how much you love them.  Dream big and don’t stop chasing those dreams!

5 Words to sum up the last 2 years… GO!
For me - Chaotic, incredible, opportunistic, challenging, rediscovery.

Quite a mixed bag of emotions there!

Thanks so much for chatting Alex, see you online soon! x
