Banish Plastic from your life with Lottie from Banish
1) Tell us a little bit about Banish and What inspired you to start your business?
As part of my new years resolution last year I decided to reduce my waste but it wasn't until I started that I realised how difficult it was. I couldn't find credible information or the products that could legitimately help me reduce my waste. Banish was born to help provide Australians with the best products and the best information there is.

2) We know that all products on the Banish website are fair trade, paraben-free and are not tested on animals! How do you source the products that you stock in your store?
They also come in recyclable shipping methods i.e no sticky tape, plastic post satchels or bubble wrap! All of the products on Banish are from Australian businesses we act as a marketplace so bring together the best of the best in one central location.

3) What are your top 3 tips to reducing plastic in the Kitchen?
In the kitchen my top three tips are:
  1. Be mindful of what you bring in to the kitchen this starts at the supermarket. Swap foods wrapped in plastic for ones with none or packaged in cardboard. Using products like The Swags will help you reduce both your plastic consumption and extend the shelf-life of your food. It's a win-win.
  2. Ditch cling wrap and snaplock bags. You probably don't realise how much of these two you use. Use beeswax wraps to keep all of your odd bits (like avocados) fresh and silicone food covers are perfect for bowls and containers. You can also make your own snaplock bags out of the wraps too!
  3. Swap your weetex and chux for long-term solutions, unfortunately, they're made of plastic so every time you rinse them tiny pieces break off and enter our waterways. I use these hand-knitted cotton dishcloths which last for four years and once you're done you just pop them in the compost.
4) Annnddd.....How about your top 3 ideas to reduce plastic in the Bathroom?
The bathroom is where I find it the hardest to reduce my plastic waste! But my three fave swaps are:
  1. Bamboo toothbrush - every plastic toothbrush we've ever used still exists somewhere on the planet! Crazy right?! A bamboo toothbrush brushes the same and when you're done snip off the bristles and throw the handle in the compost.
  2. Safety Razor - the same stat goes for razors plus a safety razor gives you a far closer shave for a portion of the cost in the long run.
  3. Shampoo Bars - one shampoo bar = 6 bottles of shampoo and conditioner. My hair feels cleaner and it is so much easier to travel with a bar than a bottle.
5) Do you think it's possible to live a completely plastic Free Life? And what might this look like?
I think it is possible but for me personally, I think we should all just try to do better than we're doing right now. Looking back 18 months ago my routine has completely changed and I use far less plastic than I ever have but I'm not perfect and am always improving.

6) Do you have any websites, books or podcasts that you can recommend for someone looking to go 'Plastic-Free'?
I love the Climactic podcast, reading all of the info we share on Banish of course and loved reading the book Sapiens whilst it isn't specifically about plastic it gives you a real appreciation for our planet.
7) Best piece of advice you have been given?
You don't have to be perfect all of the time.
Thank you Lottie! You're a true inspiration and we are RIGHT into your mission. To learn more about Lottie and check out her inspiring website click below:
